WS Journal 8 Earth to Cloth: Workshop with Karamushi 2506
This year, I extended the workshop time so participants could spend a bit more time on the fiber extraction process.
At first, the bark and fibers are reluctant to separate.
But as you get used to it, the beautiful natural color of the fibers starts to emerge.
We tried a very simple method—just pulling with a single spoon—but even so, it turned into proper fiber.
Since this is a tightly packed one-day workshop covering everything from harvesting to weaving, I can only briefly introduce each step.
Still, I hope the experience serves as a small entry point into the world of karamushi, and offers a moment to reflect on how people once made thread and wove cloth from the plants growing around them.
